Birthday Ice Skating Fun

To mark the coming of age of my dh the kids decided that his treat should be a trip to an outdoor ice rink many of which have popped up over London just in time for the festive season.  Not the most traditional way of celebrating your 40th birthday, but fun none the less.  That is unless you have an irrational fear of getting your fingers chopped off by the skates like my dh!

We went to the one at the Natural History Museum in South Kensington.  A stunning location for a skate on a cold November night.  Kids were so excited to try skating for the first time and wanted to get straight on the ice without waiting for our allocated time slot.  Luckily for them, but not my purse, there was a traditional Victorian carousel there too to keep them amused.

Finally the wait was over and we got out skates on and on to the ice.  After a few Frank Spencer-esque type falls we all got the hang of it and a great time was had by all.

We didn't even have any of the usual sisterly squabbles and there were huge smiles on all faces....even when sitting in the ice after a bump on the bum! And most importantly we all came home with all 10 fingers in time for birthday cake :0)

Getting started....round 2

I set up this blog quite a few years ago and never got started with it.  However as I am now encouraging my 9 year old daughter to get 'blogging',in a vague attempt to get her creative writing up to speed (in prep for the dreaded grammar school 11+ entrance exams next year), I thought I should lead by example and get going with my own blog.

So here goes!

First Timer

Tony has been a bit of a blogger for a while now and suggested that I create my own blog. I've never really known what to write about so hadn't bothered, but I guess there's a first time for everything so here goes.

I guess I'll just journal the 'craziness' that comes from being an expat mum in Oman. It's not all G&T's by the pool you know!
